Reusing can be creative and fun!

These days, it goes without saying that eco-friendly fashions are de riguer, but, girl, nobody said they had to be depressing or dowdy. The fashion conscious are increasingly environmentally conscious. We all want to reuse and recycle what we have. Still, that doesn’t mean burlap bags masquerading as fashion accessories are going to do it.  The challenge for me, as a designer, is to creative groovy bags and fabulous fashion totes while remaining faithful to my personal three R’s of green-friendly fashion: Recycle, Reuse – and Rejoice in looking glamorous. I derive so much joy when I’m able to incorporate scraps of materials, found FUN objects and lost little gems with lots of flare into a one-of-a-kind hand bag or adorable shopping tote for a client. It’s about being good to yourself – and good to the planet – with style!

A friend of mine bought new bedding and realized that he couldn't use the bed skirt so he gave it to me.  It's a beautiful black with small polka dots.   As I was taking it apart I started thinking of all the bags I could make from it.  I added leftover pieces from some movie star fabric to make grab and gos.  I also took some studs and rhinestones from an old belt and made funky party bags.  I used some crocheted doily's to cover it and they turned into feminine, pretty bags.  Here is what turned out!
